Dropping housing prices no surpriseBy Xin Zhiming and Ding Xuemei (chinadaily.com.cn)
Updated: 2009-03-10 15:29 Fluctuations of housing prices in the past months are in line with the government's macroeconomic control measures, Su Ning, vice-governor of the central bank, told reporters during the annual sessions of the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference on Tuesday. Housing prices were too high in the past two years, so it would be normal for the prices to drop now, Su said, adding that the government hopes to keep housing prices at an appropriate level while stimulating the public's purchasing enthusiasm. Housing prices in 70 major cities fell 1.2 percent year-on-year in February, the National Development and Reform Commission said on Tuesday.
