Trade between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan reached $44.26 billion in the first four months, up 67.9 percent year-on-year, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

The figure included $8.52 billion of Chinese mainland export to Taiwan, up 63.8 percent year-on-year, and $35.74 billion of mainland imports from the island, an increase of 68.9 percent, according to a report posted by the ministry on its website.

From January to April, the Chinese mainland approved 822 projects with investment from Taiwan, and recorded an inflow of $720 million of investment from Taiwan.

The Chinese mainland is Taiwan's largest export market.

The Chinese mainland's trade volume with Hong Kong from January to April this year rose by 31.4 percent compared with the same period last year to hit $61.82 billion, according to the report.
