Tianjin Medical University (TMU) blossomed in the 2010 Global Medical Practitioner Qualification Examination. Around 60 international students took the qualification examination, and 39 of them, or 65 percent of the candidates, passed the examination with excellent performance.

Passing rates seemed exceptional when compared with the passing rate of 13 percent in India and 3 percent in Sri Lanka. Those who study at TMU did comparatively better than their peers at home. An Indian student at TMU earned a medical practitioner certificate by scoring 229, which was the second highest score in India.

In order to facilitate international education and cater to the needs of foreign students, TMU adopted the English-only classes and edited its own teaching materials, including books and videos.

Meanwhile, TMU also invested 16 million yuan in the construction of the first simulating hospital for international students. Occupying 17,000 square meters, covering all the departments and holding cutting-edge therapeutic apparatus, this simulating hospital provides plenteous internship for international students.

According to statistics, there are now 1,100 international students at TMU. There were just 32 in 1997. With its growing enrollment numbers, TMU is striving for better education of international students. In 2009, TMU President Hao Xishan, won the first prize of the national teaching award with his project called "Guarantee the Quality of Clinical Medicine Education and Practice for International Students in China." Due to its blooming international medical education, the first national Training Centre for Medical English Teachers made its debut at TMU in 2010.
