Chinese shares close higher Friday

BEIJING - Chinese shares closed higher Friday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 31.11 points, or 1.06 percent, to 2,977.81.

The Shenzhen Component Index gained 170.62 points, or 1.34 percent, to 12,942.07.
