China's Ministry of Land and Resources is setting up an audit system, to ensure accountability in the allocation of land supply for welfare housing construction.
The ministry is requiring local governments develop a fast-track system for approving welfare-housing construction, and ensuring land supply. It also says provincial authorities should keep a tight rein over construction standards, and optimize land usage. As part of the new accountability system, regular inspections will now take place.
Liao Yonglin, Official of Chinese Ministry of Land and Resources said "One issue is the building area of welfare houses. Another is low-rent and public rental housing, which are only for rental purposes, not selling. These should be further clarified, and there needs to be stricter supervision overall."
