Japanese automaker Subaru will recall 7,133 vehicles exported to China for defects in the brake systems' master cylinders, China's quality watchdog said.

The cars to be recalled include Legacy models produced from Sept 21 to Nov 15, 2011, and Outback models produced from Nov 29 to Dec 19, 2011, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine (AQSIQ) said in a statement.

Subaru China will offer free replacement of the faulty cylinders, the statement said.

The move came after the AQSIQ warned last week of safety risks due to design flaws in the master cylinders of imported Subaru Legacy and Outback vehicles produced by Japanese automaker Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd.

The problem could potentially result in traffic accidents as it prolongs cars' stopping distance, the AQSIQ noted.

In September, Subaru recalled 36,728 vehicles exported to China due to defective front windshield wipers.
