Yao Shaojun, a farmer and entrepreneur from Funing city, Jiangsu province, started raising crocodiles in 2004. He bought 36 siamese crocodiles from Thailand and now has 6,100 crocodiles. His farm is the largest private crocodile farm in China.
Siamese crocodiles live in tropical weather, and they usually can't survive in areas north of the Yangtze River in China. Yao uses a solar-powered green house in winter as well as artificial auxiliary heating to help the crocodiles overcome the difference in climate. The biggest crocodile in Yao's farm weights 350 kilos.
