The 2012 World Ocean Week will kick off in Xiamen, Fujian province, on Nov 2.
The event aims to facilitate the healthy development of marine industries and to promote the sustainable utilization of marine resources.
Initiated in 2005, the annual event provides a working platform for international cooperation and communication among the governments of coastal cities, national agencies, and experts in marine science and technology.
This year’s World Ocean Week, which will last until Nov 8, will be held under the theme “Blue Economy, Green Growth — Science-Led Development of the Marine Economy”.
During the week, 10 forums and workshops, three marine exhibitions, and over 10 marine cultural activities will be staged.
