Chinese shares close lower Tuesday

BEIJING -- Chinese shares closed lower on Tuesday as the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index lost 1.17 percent, or 26.84 points, to end at 2,272.42.

The Shenzhen Component Index retreated 1.37 percent, or 126.97 points, to 9,124.27.
