'No comment': Nokia Siemens Nokia Siemens
Nokia Siemens Networks declined to comment on a Bloomberg report on Thursday, which said the telecom gear vendor was about to cut 8,500 jobs globally.
"We don't comment on rumors or speculation. With our ownership change and rebranding as NSN, it's not surprising that there will be all manner of conjecture about our plans," the company told China Daily on Thursday.
A Bloomberg report on Aug 7 quoted sources as saying that NSN discussed plans to cut its workforce to 42,000 by the end of 2014, which would be a 17 percent reduction. The cuts would be partly through selling or shutting down plants and farming out manufacturing operations, the report said.
The sale of some manufacturing facilities in China is also on the table, and talks with contract manufacturers are underway, the report added. Industry insiders in China said that they are not aware of any plans to sell the company's manufacturing assets in the country.
