Shaanxi savors 'Silk Road' potential

The Shangguan Jiqing, party chief of Baoji city of Shaanxi province, gave a presentation on May 23 about the glazed treasures stored at Baoji city's Famen Temple. These 20 treasures, which were unearthed in 1987 from an underground palace built in the Tang Dynasty (618 AD to 907 AD), represent the cross-cultural communication that evolved along the ancient Silk Road. These treasures were mentioned by President Xi Jinping when he delivered a speech at the headquarters of UNESCO on his recent trip to Europe. [Photo provided to chinadaily.com.cn]

Chinese president Xi Jinping's proposal to build a Silk Road economic belt has presented a "strategic time" for China's land-locked western areas, said local officials of Northwest China's Shaanxi province.
