Alpha is a humanoid intelligent robot that had research and development expenses of about 10 million yuan ($1.62 million). Developed by Union Brother Technology Co Ltd, it features several cutting-edge technologies. The product, consisting of a robot set, which uses an external power source, a wireless communication module, a remote control and an operation manual, costs 6,600 yuan, according to its website. Forty-one units have been sold from its retail store on Tmall.com, an e-commerce platform. The product was showcased at the Shanghai New International Expo Center during the 13th International Trade Fair for Toys & Preschool Educational Resources as China's first intelligent robot in the market. Union Brother, based in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, is a company that builds humanoid robots for entertainment purposes.
