With China's high-speed rail industry booming around the world, the nation's "green trains" are stepping out of China's railways.

The "green trains", a traditional nickname for Chinese old style passenger trains, have carriages that are usually painted with green colors and yellow stripes. They're part of the memories of several generations.

Data from the Wuhan Evening Post in July showed that less than 30 pairs of green trains were still in operation, and that most were responsible for transporting people on short-haul lines of about 500 kilometers in length.

China's railway network adopted new train schedules on Dec 10 and had 5,347 trains in service, according to Economic Daily News on Wednesday.
