Shenzhen innovation showcased in Rio

Shenzhen's innovative capability is gaining increasing recognition internationally as a number of enterprises from the southern city of Guangdong province have been chosen as equipment providers for the ongoing Rio Olympics.

In the Olympic Village, sailing competitions and also the opening and closing ceremonies, XPT digital trunking systems have been installed and around 1,200 radios are being used to ensure sound communication between personnel. The equipment is designed and produced by Shenzhen-based Hytera Communications Corporation Limited.

In the Village alone, more than 800 handheld radios are being applied for venue security management, catering, cleaning, operation and so forth. The system, which supports dozens of talk groups, is the only radio system to cover the whole Village.

"For large sports events like the Olympics, the biggest value of our radio equipment lies in that it enables high-quality push-to-talk instant communication and a number of talk groups, which promotes high efficiency of communication and coordination," said Dylan Liu, international marketing director of Hytera Communications.

Compared with other products, the radios used in the Olympics are able to provide sound services in noisy environments and border areas of its coverage. They are also more advanced in communication security protection, according to Liu.

However, Hytera is not the only Shenzhen company that "participates in" the Olympics. Aoyodi Electronics Co Ltd, a company based in Longhua New District with 50-some employees, has provided nearly 2,000 metal detector gates and 200,000 handheld security equipment for the international event.

Meanwhile, Mingbo Furniture stood out from more than 30,000 companies across the world to become the sofa provider at the Rio Olympics, offering 22,000 sets of sofa used in Olympic Village, media center and also reception center. The company is known for its innovative design and environmental friendly feature.
