Drivers in Beijing who violate a regulation aimed at curbing pollution from vehicle emissions face being penalized on two fronts.
The municipal government released the emissions-control program on Oct 29. Errant drivers face being fined as well as a points deduction from their licenses.
Under the program, the capital will designate certain areas as low-emission zones, where drivers will be charged a congestion fee.
Vehicles entering the area within the Sixth Ring Road will be strictly inspected, and the regulation will apply to local vehicles and those from outside Beijing.
