BEIJING -- Japanese carmaker Nissan will recall 4,367 imported Infiniti cars in the Chinese mainland because of defects with the anti-lock braking system (ABS), China's leading quality watchdog said Tuesday.

The cars to be recalled are the JX 35 model and were produced between Aug 3, 2012 and Sept 20, 2013, according to a statement from the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

The statement said that the defect could extend braking distance.

Nissan China Investment Co Ltd will be responsible for the recall, which begins on Oct 23. The defective ABS will be reprogrammed. Meanwhile, models in inventory will be repaired before being sold, the statement said.

Launched in 1989, Infiniti is the luxury vehicle division of Nissan.
