New developments in the Super Trofeo Asia Series are a reflection of the developing motorsport culture all across Asia and increasing brand awareness in the market, said Winkelmann.
"Our engagement in racing events is designed to increase awareness of our brand image, which is key to further development in targeted markets," said Winkelmann. Although the prime reason for involvement in races is not just to boost sales, Winkelmann admitted that "we see the events do help promote sales".
Macao's world-famous Guia circuit was the venue for the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo race. |
He cited the Lamborghini Gallardo, saying its performance both on the track and on the market was put to the extreme this year with the Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo 2013 racing car.
Through six successful rounds in Asia, the model has aptly presented its fierce capacity as an international racing car.
Winkelmann said that is well matched with the Gallardo family's accomplishments in the global market, as Gallardo represents almost 50 percent of all Lamborghinis ever produced.
"Racing alongside the Macao Grand Prix was a unique opportunity for the Super Trofeo's Asian drivers to enrich their experience through competing at the challenging Guia Circuit," said Cristiano Inverni, coordinator of Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Asia Series.
"Drivers took their experience of five rounds this season and put every acquired skill and focus on the table for this final leg.
The sheer passion shown by teams today and throughout the season has been key to our success this year, and will no doubt underline the success of the Super Trofeo in Asia next year," said Inverni.
Winkelmann said that the Asian racing series will go to Thailand and Indonesia for the first time next year.
"We hope that the new destinations will attract new drivers in Asia," he said.
On Nov 22 to 23, the Super Trofeo Series will culminate in the world finals in Rome. Series champions from Asia, Europe and North America will come together to Lamborghini's home country to compete at the ACI Vallelunga circuit for the ultimate racing glory.
