Volkswagen Group China announced at a media workshop on Tuesday in Guangzhou that it will provide another 50 million yuan ($8.2 million) in funding for charity in China.

The funds will further support awareness for child safety, reconstruction, junior football and education.

"We value the well-being of people in China. That is why in addition to our corporate activities as responsible member of this society we not only talk but also act," said Jochem Heizmann, a member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Group, as well as president and CEO of Volkswagen Group China.

"We are funding 50 million yuan to different charity projects in China. As a most responsible partner in China's auto industry, we will make every effort to promote sustainable development here."

Children are the future of society and Volkswagen wants to contribute to their safety, said the president.

Since the launch of its Child Safety Initiative at Auto Guangzhou last year, Volkswagen Group China has donated 5,000 child seats to families across the country in cooperation with Shanghai Volkswagen and FAW-Volkswagen.

The China Child Road Safety Roadshow brought in-depth safety knowledge in a playful way to thousands of children and their parents in 17 cities.

In cooperation with kindergartens, schools and official institutions, the program will continue in 2015 and include more than 100 cities all over the country.

At the same time, the group wants to contribute to reconstruction efforts for regions hit by natural disasters, its executives said.

This year it gave 5 million yuan in donations to Ludian, Yunnan province immediately after an earthquake.
