5.8% of mobile phone exports (Xinhua) Updated: 2006-05-21 09:01
Less than six in every 100 mobile phones that China exported last year were
home brands, a senior official with the Ministry of Information Industry has
said.
China exported 228 million mobile phones in 2005, of which only 13.2 million
phones, or 5.8 percent, were home brands, said Wang Jianzhang, director of the
ministry's general planning department at an international forum on China's
mobile phone industry earlier this week.
The number of exported mobile phones and the export turnover of 20.635
billion U.S. dollars represent a 45-plus percent year-on-year increase, said
Wang.
The market share of mobile phones under foreign brands rose to nearly 60
percent in China, while that of mobile phones under home brands went down 44.5
percent in 2004 to 40 percent last year, the official added.
A total of 304 million mobile phones were produced in China last year,
accounting for 36.8 percent of the world's total production.
There are 65 mobile phone manufactuers in China - 31 are home-funded and 34
are foreign-funded.
