EMC Corporation, the world leader in information management and storage, announced here Thursday that former IBM executive Denis Yip has joined the company as President of its Greater China operations.

Yip will lead the company's customer operations in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan and report to Steven Leonard, president of EMC Asia Pacific and Japan.

"The Greater China region is a very dynamic and fast-growing market globally and offers significant opportunities for EMC," said Leonard.

EMC announced in June an investment program of 500 million U.S. dollars for its operations in China, aiming to create a new global software-development center based in Shanghai.

Yip most recently managed IBM's Asia Pacific storage division, based in Shanghai. Prior to that, Yip held a variety of IBM senior management positions over a 15-year period, including appointments in the United States, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Tokyo.

IBM and EMC are two of the largest storage providers in the Chinese market and have been competing head-to-head.
