Railway to be built for shipping coal from Inner Mongolia

The construction of a new railway line is expected to kick off soon to link up the coal-rich central and eastern part ofInner MongoliaAutonomous Region withLiaoningProvince.

The railway, named Baxin, will connect the Bayanwula Region of Xilinguole League in Inner Mongolia with Fuxin City, Liaoning Province. The line is 487.6 kilometers long, with 427.6 kilometers running in Inner Mongolia and 60 kilometers in Liaoning Province.

As a Grade I local railway with a single line, the Baxin railway is designed for inner combustion locomotives but has reserved technical conditions for future electrification. With an investment of 5.5 billion yuan (US$706 million), the first phase of construction is expected to take 30 months.
