Airlines: More passengers fly

China Southern Airlines Co, the nation's largest airline, and other Chinese carriers flew 16 percent more passengers in the first quarter as economic growth boosted travel demand.

The carriers flew 40.9 million passengers in the three months ended on March 31, the General Administration of Civil Aviation said on its Website yesterday. Cargo volume rose 13 percent from a year earlier to 858,000 tons. China's economy grew 11.1 percent in the first quarter boosting the demand for business and leisure flights.
