Great Eastern to set up 15 branches

Great Eastern Life Assurance (China) Co Ltd, a 50-50 joint venture by Great Eastern and Chongqing Land Properties Group, plans to set up 15 branches throughout China in the next five years, according to Tan Tiam Chai, chief executive officer (CEO) of the life insurer.

Tan said that, branches in Chongqing, Sichuan and Zhejiang will open in 2007 and 2008, while other branches including Beijing, Nanjing, and Guangzhou will be set up later.

According to its strategy in insurance premiums, the insurer also plans to boost the number of its agents this year to at least 500 from its present 300. According to Wang Boqing, vice president of the insurer, said the insurer plans to launch insurance programs including pension plans and medical care.
