China's logistics sector recorded 33.8 trillion yuan (4.45 trillion US dollars) in total value in the first half, up 25.6 percent from the same period last year.

The figure also represents an increase of 1.8 percentage points from the first quarter with a significant increase in demand for distribution, processing and packaging, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said in a statement published on Wednesday.

Logistics services involving industrial products were the main driving force behind the increase in the sector, the commission said.

The logistics value of industrial products shot up by 27.4 percent to 29.8 trillion yuan (3.9 trillion US dollars), accounting for 88.1 percent of the total value of domestic logistics services.

Expenditure on transportation hit 1.1 trillion yuan (144.7 billion US dollars), making up 55.1 percent of the logistics expenditure in the first half, totaling 1.95 trillion yuan (256.6 billion US dollars), up 16.2 percent over the same period last year.
