The first totally automated high-speed transfer line in China was independently developed by JIER and will be used in pressing large-scale panels for BMW cars built at Shenyang Brilliance Automobile Co.

China's first five-axis-linkage boring milling machine, representing the highest CNC technology so far, was used by Angang Machinery Corporation in machining large-scale parts.

This boring milling machine tool will also be used in producing vanes in the Three Gorges Project and Gezhouba Project.

The five-axis-linkage boring milling machine has not only met the requirements of the power plant, shipping and defense sectors but also ended the history of dependence on imported machines.

JIER has evolved into one of the five largest machine tool makers in the world. "JIER has changed from 'upgrading technology' to the strategy of 'developing independently'. It is innovation that has pushed JIER into the leading position," said Zhang.

"Innovative ability has made JIER outstanding in the field of heavy-duty machines," said He Guangyuan, honorary president of China Machinery Industry Federation.

"JIER sets a good example for other companies to improve their equipments through innovation," said Li Ye, head of the Heavy-duty Machine Administration of the National Development and Reform Commission.

Since 1997, JIER has supplied more than 10 stamping lines for GM branches in Shanghai, and countries like the United States, Britain, Canada and Thailand.

Stamping lines found a market in Africa and Brazil in 1998 and 2000 respectively.

Meanwhile, machine tools made by JIER are used by domestic heavyweights such as FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Company Ltd, Dongfeng Motor Corporation Co, and Shanghai General Motors Co.

At present, JIER holds 90 percent of the domestic market in the field of heavy-duty machine tools. The heavy-duty machine tools are exported to North America and Europe to supply stamping lines for world-famous brands, such as Benz, Honda, Ford and Toyota.
