Shanghai will host an international plastics and rubber show at its New International Expo Center on April 17 to boost the development of East China's plastics and rubber industries.

Stanley Chu, chairman of Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd, said yesterday that industry leader Chinaplas 2008 will have 1,700 overseas and domestic suppliers attending the show to promote new products and technologies to over 60,000 visitors from around the world.

Chu said continuous strong growth in the plastics industry in Shanghai and East China was stimulus for the launch of Chinaplas.

Shanghai and its nearby regions have contributed half of China's total national output of plastics products, said Liu Jingfen, vice president of the Shanghai Society of Plastics Industry.

More than 1,800 pieces of equipment will be demonstrated at the show, along with a wide range of chemicals and raw materials for various industries, Chu said.

He said the show has confirmed participation of numerous market leaders as well as pavilion groups from Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, China, UK and the United States.

It will also incorporate sports themed elements, echoing the 2008 Beijing Olympics preparations with concurrent activities such as conferences and performances.
