China 2007 CPI up 4.8% based on provincial figures

China's consumer price index rose 4.8 percent in 2007, a figure derived from provincial data provided by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The bureau said on its website that CPI grew 5.9 percent in southwestern China's Yunnan Province last year, adding that the provincial indicator was 1.1 percentage points higher than the 'average level' for China.

The statement implies a 2007 national CPI growth average of 4.8 percent.

The NBS will officially 2007 economic data tomorrow.
