Beijing shopping spree hit 1.91b yuan in four days

Beijing consumers spent about 1.91 billion yuan in shopping malls, supermarkets and the catering sector from February 6 to February 9, the first four days of the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday.

The consumers spent 367 million yuan on Saturday, up 10 percent from the previous day, according to the Beijing Commercial information Consulting Center, a well-known consultant for local consumption.

During the day, the consumers spent 125 million yuan in shopping malls, up 22.1 over the previous day, and 121 million in supermarkets, up 21.2 percent.

Over the four days, consumption on catering sector had exceeded 3.5 million yuan, said the consultant.

Jewelries made of gold and silver are the hottest commodities in this Spring Festival, said the consultant without giving further details.

Spring Festival is China's most important traditional holiday, or family re-union holiday.
