China's key stock index surges more than 4.9%

China's benchmark stock index staged a strong technical rebound Friday, closing 4.94 percent higher to end a two-day losing streak.

The major Shanghai Composite Index opened 0.96 percent lower before bargain hunting pushed it up by 168.65 points to 3,580.15.

It tumbled 5.42 percent, the biggest one-day loss in 2 month, to 3,411.49 Thursday, the lowest close since April 9 last year.

The Shenzhen Component Index gained 581.43 points, or 4.43 percent to 13,692.85.
