Taiwan Province will see more than one million travelers from Chinese mainland when the direct flights open, which is expected to take place in July of this year, said Yang Hsiao-Tung, commissioner of Department of Information and Tourism from Taiwan Province, Sunday.

He made this speech in an interview at the 10th Cross-Straits Fair for Economy and Trade in Fuzhou City, East China's Fujian Province, which opened on Saturday, May 18, 2008.

"The number of daily travelers from the Chinese mainland to Taiwan Province will reach 3,000, and the number is expected to reach 1.1 million annually if the direct flights opened in July," he said.

Chen Minsheng of Taipei Huazuo travel agency said the eight-day traveling fees in Taiwan Province range between 8,000 to 10,000 yuan.

Liang Jianyong, vice-mayor of Fuzhou, said he hopes to develop Fuzhou into a transfer city between Chinese mainland and Taiwan Province.

Figures show 230,000 Chinese mainland people visited Taiwan Province in 2007, while 4.62 million Taiwanese visited Chinese mainland, including trips by the approximately 1 million who live and do business in the Chinese mainland.
