China solicits advice for post-quake reconstruction

Updated: 2008-08-12 23:56 China is asking for advice from home and abroad to better the general outline of its post-quake restoration and reconstruction work, published on Tuesday.
According to the outline, the reconstruction work would cover an area of 132,596 square kilometers, which had a total population of more than 19.8 million by the end of 2007. All the restoration and reconstruction would need a total of 1 trillion yuan ($145.8 billion) according to previous evaluation, NDRC said. The Chinese version of the outline was now available on the NDRC website (www.sdpc.gov.cn) and governmental website (www.gov.cn), while the English version would be available later on www.gov.cn and www.chinadaily.com.cn. Advice should be sent from Aug. 12 to 24. The death toll from the May 12 earthquake in Sichuan Province and its neighboring region rose to 69,225 as of Monday noon.
