Chinese shares closed 3.04 percent lower on Wednesday, falling for the third consecutive day, driven by financial and brokerage shares. The decline was also discouraged by regional markets plunge amid concerns of the worsening global financial woes, analysts said.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index dropped 3.04 percent, or 65.61 points to end at 2,092.22 points. The Shenzhen Component Index closed at 6,924.49 points, down 256.79 points, or 3.58 percent.

Aggregate turnover was 57.5 billion yuan ($8.41 billion). Losses outnumbered gains 1,350 to 245, while 113 stocks were unchanged.
