The Chinese government has selected 15 aluminum producers to start direct power supply business, in a bid to further cut their costs.

The 15 companies included five subsidiaries under Aluminum Corp of China and several local aluminum companies.

Under direct power supply, power consumers will sign deals with power generators directly. This will help them get cheaper power supply, compared with purchasing electricity from power grid companies.

In aluminum manufacturing, power costs account for 35 to 40 percent of the total cost.
