August power consumption up 8.22%

China's power consumption in August hit 346.22 billion kWh, up 8.22 percent year-on-year or 1.23 percent month-on-month, keeping the month-on-month positive growth trend starting April, said the National Energy Administration (NEA) Monday.

Total power consumption in the first eight months climbed 0.36 percent from a year earlier to 2.34 trillion kWh. During the first eight months, power consumption of the primary industry went up by 6.29 percent year-on-year to 64.14 billion kWh, and that of the tertiary industry was up 10.7 percent year-on-year to 255.52 billion kWh, while the secondary industry power use decreased 2.84 percent year-on-year to 1.72 trillion kWh.

China's installed power generation capacity increased 40.82 million kW, with 10.25 million kW in the hydropower sector and 27.02 million kW in the coal-fired power sector.
