Outward processing account for 31% HK exports to mainland in Q2

HONG KONG - The Census and Statistics Department announced on Sept 17 that 31 percent of Hong Kong's total exports to the Chinese mainland were for outward processing in the second quarter of 2010.

The proportion was 20 percent for domestic exports and 31 percent for re-exports, said the department.

In value terms, HK$128.6 billion of Hong Kong's total exports to the Chinese mainland in the second quarter of 2010 were for outward processing, rising by 22 percent from the corresponding period last year.

On the other hand, 51 percent of Hong Kong's imports from the Chinese mainland were related to outward processing.

Over the same period of comparison, the value of imports from the Chinese mainland related to outward processing grew by 37 percent to HK$194.4 billion.
