About Bozhou

Bozhou city 

Located on the border of Jiangsu, Shandong, Henan and Anhui provinces, Bozhou city was approved as a city directly under the government of Anhui province by the State Council in May, 2000, governing Guoyang, Mengcheng, Lixin counties and Qiaocheng district. It covers an area of 8374 square kilometers and has a population of 5,880,000.

More than 3700 years ago, Shang Dynasty was founded in Bozhou. It is the birthplace of Taoism and traditional Chinese medicine.

The founders of Taoism, Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi were both from Bozhou and the famous highly-skilled doctor Hua Tuo opened his first herb garden in this city.

Bozhou is also the origin of Chinese liquor culture. In 196AD,Cao Cao, the ancient emperor presented the secret brewing method "JiuNiangChun" , thus the world famous Gujing Tribute Liquor came into being.

There are more than 200 cultural relics in this city,. The underground tunnel of Caocao , known as "the Underground Great Wall," was used for transporting soldiers. Huazu Nunnery dates from the Tang and Song Dynasty and is the memorial temple for Hua Tuo.

Bozhou has long been known for traditional Chinese medicine. The Chinese pharmacopeia includes several popular herbs, such as herbaceous peony, chrysanthemum, mulberry cortex and pollen. Bozhou is the biggest collecting and distributing center of herbs in China.

The Annual Trade Fair of Traditional Chinese Medicine and International (Bozhou) Expo have been held successively for 25 years and 4 years.
