Southwest China's Chongqing municipality generated $5.62 billion in foreign trade in the first four months of this year, a rise of 74.9 percent over the same period of last year, according to the local customs house.
The total included $3.23 billion of exports, up 78.6 percent year-on-year, and $2.39 billion of imports, up 70.2 percent.
The city's leading trade partners were the European Union, ASEAN members, the United States, Japan and the Republic of Korea.
Of Chongqing's total exports between January and April, 74.8 percent, or $2.41 billion worth, were machinery and electronics, up 91.7 percent year-on-year.
