How to write a resignation letter well

There comes a day when your job no longer provides you with a sense of achievement or no longer fits into your life. You decide to quit. Writing a brief and professional resignation letter is the first thing to do. Some people have a hard time doing this. Here are some tips you may find useful.

Get to the point at the beginning

Concisely and directly state that you are resigning and when, avoiding ambiguity. You need to include the date of your last day and refer to your company termination policy.

Express your appreciation

Polite and graceful resignation is the best choice. Thank your employer for the opportunities and training you received, for the things you learnt and for the guidance you obtained. This is to leave a good impression. You can extend your best wishes to your boss and your employer.

This is not only about professionalism but maintaining connection. Your soon-to-be ex-employer is an important part of your network that is crucial for your future career. Someday in the future, you may need a reference letter from your old boss; you may have the opportunity to rejoin; your previous employer may become your business partner. By doing so, you are paving your way for the future.

Pay attention to your tone

Even though you want to leave for your new job as early as possible, it is important to express willingness to offer assistance in transition and to leave your contact information such as phone number and e-mail address.

Don't make the readers feel uncomfortable. You can use sentences like "I'd like to leave the company next month at a time when you feel it is convenient for you." It's a demonstration of your professionalism and courtesy.

Although it is optional, you may want to explain your reason for leaving. It is unnecessary to be specific. For example, you can simply indicate it is a family reason or for personal career development.
