Hong Kong's credit card receivables increases in Q2

HONG KONG - Hong Kong's total credit card receivables increased 3.9 percent to around HK$87 billion ($11.2 billion) in the second quarter, after falling 4.4 percent in the first quarter, the authority announced on Monday.
The Monetary Authority said that the total number of credit- card accounts rose 2.2 percent to HK$14.5 million. The rollover amount, which reflects the amount of borrowing by customers using their credit cards, rose by 0.3 percent during the quarter.
According to the statistics, the charge-off amount rose 0.3 percent in the second quarter to HK$334 million, or around 0.4 percent of average receivables, at the end of June.
The quarterly annualized charge-off ratio remained relatively stable at 1.57 percent compared with 1.55 percent in the previous quarter.
The amount of rescheduled receivables transferred outside the surveyed institutions' credit-card portfolios fell to HK$75 million from HK$88 million in the previous quarter.
The delinquent amount rose to HK$176 million at the end of June from HK$162 million at the end of March.
Correspondingly, the delinquency ratio grew to 0.2 percent from 0. 19 percent at the end of March.
The combined delinquent and rescheduled ratio, after taking into account the transfer of rescheduled receivables mentioned above, remained at 0.28 percent.
