BMW plans to export China-made 5 Series

BMW would be the first foreign luxury car manufacturer to export China-made cars when it starts to ship locally produced long-wheelbase 5 Series sedans overseas as early as December. The cars will be jointly built with Brilliance.

However, the destination isn't known yet. Christoph Stark, the CEO of BMW Group Region China, said that it will look for markets in the Middle East, Asia or other markets that would receive the products so that they could test this export effort. He said that the main market is China as they can't even cope with the demand in this market.

Sales of BMW's new 5 Series sedan have been high in China, particularly the long version. Stark also said that BMW will produce engines in China. A joint venture factory will build a Twin-Power Turbo four-cylinder engine that will be used in made-in-China X1 and other models.
