Tencent further taps Indonesian market

JAKARTA - Tencent, a China-based leading provider for comprehensive Internet service, announced Thursday it has set up a joint venture with Indonesia largest media company PT Global Mediacom in a bid to further explore the country vast Internet service potential.

The joint venture, engaging in Internet and mobile Internet service, has just launched a WeChat TV commercial to penetrate Wechat to Indonesian Market. Wechat is a popular mobile chatting app created by Tencent which has been available in Indonesia since 2012.

Tencent President Martin Lau said on the signing ceremony that Indonesia is a fast-growing country with big number of online media users and Tencent pays great attention to its huge market.

"Tencent's cooperation with Global Mediacom is a strategic step to establish a more expansive user base in Indonesia." Martin said.

Hary Tanoesoedibjo, CEO of MNC Group, Global Mediacom's parent company said the combination of Tencent's unique technology and expertise with Global Mediacom will fully explore the vast potential growth of Indonesia Internet based services.

Hillhouse, a leading Asia-based institutional investment firm, has also participated in the form of the venture.
