DNV GL appoints regional manager for Greater China

As with the merger between two leading classification societies, DNV and GL, got approval and the new DNV GL Group started operational on 12 September, the new group has appointed Torgeir Sterri as its first Maritime Regional Manager in Greater China.

Based in Shanghai, Sterri will oversee, strengthen and grow DNV GL's maritime business in Greater China while building up strong relationships with industry stakeholders in this strategically important market.

Sterri said, "China's shipbuilding industry has achieved spectacular progress over the past decade. Our commitment to China will deepen through the merger of DNV and GL at a time when China is upgrading its shipbuilding industry by developing more complex ship types and offshore segments."

DNV GL offers class services in both the shipping and offshore markets as well as maritime advisory services.

Sterri has 20 years' experience in the global maritime industry and has held a variety of managerial positions in DNV. Prior to this position, Sterri was DNV's Country Chair for Benelux and Regional Manager of Central Europe and played a vital role in introducing Chinese shipyards to the European market.
