BEIJING - China Eastern Airlines, one of three major Chinese airliners, has signed an agreement with Boeing for the purchase of 80 airplanes.
Most of the planes in the agreement are the B737 MAX model, which is energy-efficient, according to the airliner, which signed the deal with the plane manufacturer on Friday.
The 80 jets will cost $7.39 billion, the company said.
The airliner forecast the new planes will boost its transport capacity by around 13 percent.
Under the agreement, the planes are to be delivered between 2016 and 2020.
