China needs technology innovation to adapt to the new normal of economic growth and realize a transformation and upgrade of the economy, Lyu Xinhua, spokesman of The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said at a press conference on Monday.

According to Lyu, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) contributed more than 65 percent to GDP and more than 50 percent to taxation last year. They also exported more than 68 percent of the total volume and created more than 75 percent of jobs last year.

CPPCC and the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC) focused on supporting the technology innovation of SMEs in 2014. CPPCC members have raised opinions and suggestions on the development of SMEs that have been affirmed by the central government and authorities, Lyu said.

"I believe that the research will help SMEs to solve their difficulties," Lyu said.

The annual session of the CPPCC National Committee is scheduled to open on Tuesday.
