China's young luxury travelers go abroad every three to four months, mainly for leisure, according to Chinese Luxury Traveler 2016, a 32-page report on their travel trends and characteristics.
Released by the Hurun Research Institute and Marriott International, this year's report focuses on young, luxury travelers born after 1980. These "Generation Y" travelers spend an average 420,000 yuan on tourism each year, including 220,000 yuan on shopping whilst abroad.
Young luxury travelers' hotel preferences are increasingly diverse, the report said. The Ritz-Carlton topped the list of most popular luxury hotel brands, followed by Four Seasons and The Peninsula.
