Chinese Twitter-like platform Sina Weibo unveiled a new service system on Friday that allowed professionals to manage video material and edit video clips, marking its latest effort to boost its booming online short video business.

The system, a joint effort by Sina Weibo, streaming site Miaopai and media platform Easub, provides fast-cutting and montage, through which users can edit short videos and live broadcasts and then publish on Weibo. Users can also add special effects into the video.

The company claimed it had partnered with nearly 300 multi-channel networks, which will offer abundant video clips for its open database.

"Through providing such an easy and efficient system, we hope to lower the barrier of making short videos for users and, meanwhile, spare more space for them to focus on producing the content of short videos," said Cao Zenghui, vice-president of Sina Weibo.

The system will serve mainly for institutional users, such as media and video platforms, according to the company. It said that non-professional users are able to make a qualified short video in as fast as two minutes.

Cao said consumption of short videos is exploding quickly on Weibo in the past two years. During the Spring Festival this year, short videos concerning CCTV's Spring Gala had 4.8 billion views on Weibo.

In March, the average daily views of short videos on Weibo's platform increased by more than five times than in the same period in 2016.

The company said that it also planned to work with MCNs to cover more than 40 different fields this year.
