China would like to play a constructive role in the political resolution of Ukraine crisis, President Xi Jinping said on Tuesday.

Xi made the remarks while meeting Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko during the annual meeting of the Davos World Economic Forum in Switzerland.

China sincerely hopes that Ukraine could maintain social stability and economic development, Xi said.

China would like to boost political trust with Ukraine, and the two countries could enhance cooperation in areas including education, health, sports, culture and tourism.

The two countries should enhance coordination in important global and regional affairs, Xi said.

Mentioning that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Ukraine-China diplomatic relationship, Poroshenko said that Ukraine would like to enhance its political and economic cooperation with China.

The two countries have great potential in cooperation on areas including logistics, seaports, agriculture, steel and manufacture, he said, adding that Ukraine welcomes Chinese investment.

The Ukrainian president also extended his wishes of happy Spring Festival to President Xi and Chinese people. The festival, known as the New Year's Day in the Chinese traditional lunar calendar, falls on Jan 28 this year.

Xi made a keynote speech during the open ceremony of the forum. About 3,000 political and business leaders attended the forum.
