Severe traffic violations throughout China have dropped sharply since January, according to data issued by the Ministry of Public Security on Jan 31, Beijing Times reported Friday.
New traffic regulations took effect on Jan 1. The revised rules are significantly more stringent and traffic violations have reduced since its implementation.
Violations of traffic light signals dropped by 40 percent compared to the same period a year earlier, data from the ministry shows. Speeding by over 50 percent of the limit reduced by 32.5 percent, and the number of cars with covered up license plates fell by 71.5 percent.
The number of traffic accidents at road intersections also saw a reduction.
