JAC to recall defective cars over rust concerns

BEIJING -- JAC Motors will recall 117,072 units of Turin cars over rust concerns, the country's consumer quality watchdog said Tuesday.

JAC Motors will recall those units produced between November 2008 and December 2011, as the metal plates on the side of the bodies of the cars are likely to rust in moist conditions due to a bad coating, according to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

The Anhui-based automaker will inspect these cars and repair those with rust problems for free. It will also improve the coating of the metal plates for those that have not rusted, according to the administration.

JAC Motors is one of China's largest domestic automakers. Last week, state broadcaster China Central Television reported that many drivers have been complaining about rust problems with Turin cars.
