VW to recall Bently, Lamborghini in China

BEIJING - Volkswagen will recall 113 Bentleys and 104 Lamborghinis on the Chinese mainland due to a problem related to carbon ceramic brakes, China's consumer quality watchdog said Tuesday.

For Bentley, the affected models include Bentley Continental GT, Bentley GT Convertible and Bentley Flying Spur manufactured between July 2006 and June 2010, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said in a statement.

For Lamborghini, the recall involved 13 Lamborghini Gallardos produced between May 12, 2008 and Feb 4, 2009, as well as 91 Lamborghini Murcielagos built between August 31, 2006 and May 6, 2010.

The stainless steel screws that attach the brake rotors to the metal hub are susceptible to corrosion in salty environments. In some circumstances, the cars may experience a small increase in stopping distance, according to the statement.

Authorized Bentley and Lamborghini dealers in China will replace the problematic screws and eliminate risks for car owners, said the statement.

The recall will start on Oct 21, it said.
